Weary. Tired. Fatigued. Drained. I used to have physically demanding jobs – grounds maintenance, manufacturing, jet engine mechanic – and most days I came home tired. I still come home most days feeling completely drained, like I have given all that I have to give, but the work I do is not at all physical. And people will remark, “how can you be so tired when all you do is sit at a desk all day ?”
I once had a senior administrator explain that the work required to care for her horse made her tired but a good nights rest was like hitting reset, while the work of an administrator makes one weary – carrying the responsibility and weight of others takes more than a good night’s rest.
Today was packed with professional development and leadership theory. Enough to fill a week, never mind a day. It was a lot and I was at capacity by the time we adjourned, but I was reenergized – like a hard sleep after a physical day, hearing stories of success and building professional skills was like hitting reset on the energy meter. Plus there was chocolate.
We didn’t have Junior Mints for our workshop, but this represents the spirit of the day. Looking for something that had relevance, E offered up this box of candy and I thought it would be interesting to play with angles and aperture. Shot with the Canon 50mm from about 8″ to 16″ from the subject.
